It is often said by our opposition parties that "the Liberal Democrats will back anything Europe says". Whilst we are pro-European we believe in making Europe work for you, and we fight for fairness, openness and efficiency in Brussels and will continue to do so, just the way we do at any other level of Government.

• We have long campaigned for more transparency and accountability in MEP pay and expenses.

• Our MEPs have fought to ensure that the total annual budget of the European Union does not exceed 1% of GDP of the collective Member States, reducing the impact on the taxpayer.

• We have always oposed overly burdensome extra regulation from the EU.

• We have long fought for radical reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, and Kay Barnard, our second candidate, is particularly keen to continue doing this.
